Symptoms

What causes misted double glazing?

Sealed units have a desiccant-filled spacer bar that absorbs residual moisture. Over time (typically 15–20 years) the edge seal degrades through UV exposure and daily heating and cooling.

Once the seal breaks, moist air gets in, the desiccant saturates, and condensation forms on the inner glass surfaces. You see it as misting, fogging or a milky film you cannot wipe off, because it is inside the unit.

How we fix it

The only lasting fix is to replace the glass unit itself. We do not offer ‘drill and dry’ — it is a temporary patch at best and often makes the unit look worse.

We inspect the affected units, confirm the seal has failed (rather than a ventilation issue) and measure each one precisely.
We order like-for-like made-to-measure replacement units — typically 5–7 working days.
We remove the beads and old unit, clean the rebate, fit the new unit with fresh packers and gaskets, and refit the beads — around 20–40 minutes each.

Misting vs condensation: know the difference

Condensation on the inside surface of the glass (the room side) is a ventilation and humidity issue, not a failed unit. Condensation on the outside surface actually means your glazing is working well.

Condensation between the panes — the kind you cannot touch or wipe — is the tell-tale sign of a failed sealed unit. That is what we replace.
